I call 5 stores around my office every dang day looking for one, and it's for my DAD. Dude has a DS Lite, XBOX, PS2, and GameCube, and every incarnation before that, as well.
yikes.

We happily acquired a glorious Wii on launch day. (Yay standing in the rain for three hours! I mean, yay for *him* standing in the rain for three hours and me dozing in the car). I'm just going to chime in and agree with everything lemming (I'm sorry I don't know you to be able to call you anything else) said about Wii sports and add that there's a mini-game mode that's a blast to play. For example, one of the bowling mini-games is a ten frame set that adds a row each frame. There is something ridiculously satisfying about knocking down 91pins simultaneously and hearing them crash down. I'll also echo the ease of play here. My father got up to play a few frames of bowling. Mind you, my father has arthritis in bond hands and three slipped disks in his back... and he still kicked my butt. =P
We've also played a few of the other games currently available for the happy, shiny console.
Zelda: Very pretty and a bit on the frustrating side on some aspects. There are a few moments where instructions on how to accomplish your goal are given just in time to have you plummeting to your death. Though overall (we think we're about 75% of the way through it) it's a great game. It really integrates the use of the wiimote and nunchuck well (fishing, slingshots, bow and arrow) and you don't have to focus your time learning complicated moves to accomplish tasks. So it's less about being a platformer where you have to focus on jumping in the right direction (though occassionally, you will jump in exactly the wrong spot). It's more about exploring the world and working through the story. It has relatively decent cut scenes, some go a bit over long, and the story is fairly dark for a Zelda game. (Yay for being a grown up!)
Red Steel: I'm actually moderately disappointed in this. As a FPS it's very unpolished. The moves are choppy and don't respond with the same fluidity that they do in Zelda. There are times that you'll walk into a room and get killed out of nowhere, without any real way determining where the son of a motherless goat is that killed you. The sword fighting aspect in the game is somewhat irritating and may result in your desire to hurl your wiimote at the television (resist the urge). The major cut scenes have an interesting comic book look to them, though you may want to kill whoever wrote the dialogue. Over all, Red Steel's not a terrible game... just unpolished and not as good as our expectations for it. Though, honestly, if it worked the way it's supposed to and other FPS's are going to be following this model... I'm looking forward to the next wave of games. (Jedi master, here I come!)
Monkey Ball: Holy crap! Fun!!! And, unlike WiiSports, it actually requires a bit of delicate handling of the wiimote. Flailing around like a lunatic on speed will not help you here. Though you may catch yourself leaning ever so gently in time with your monkey ball. If you've played other monkeyball games (super monkey ball adventures not included...ewww), you will *not* be disappointed. Heck, you will be challenged, thrilled and overjoyed at the way they've upgraded monkey ball. You'll still find the glorious backdrops and obstacle courses from previous games (And the collect bananas bonus games during the end level credits), but there are a few things new; two new characters, the ability to jump and boss levels. Following the trend of the second monkey ball, there is a storyline premise. (It's loose and doesn't really affect your gameplay, as in, no horrible cut scenes!) It's basically this; an evil pirate gorrilla has stolen the golden banana trophy (OT; there's a strip club somewhere around here called the Golden Banana). Your job is to quest through different levels to defeat Pirate Gorrilla's henchmen and reclaim the golden bananas! Like I said, it doesn't really affect your gameplay.
There's also a set of new mini-games for up to four players. Most of these are fun, though there are a select few that make you want to smash things with the lack of directions. Overall, if you liked previous versions of Monkey Ball, you will *love* this game. And if you've never played Monkey Ball, this is a pretty darned good point to start.
And I think I've done enough rambling. Hope this helps =)
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

I only played it for a few hours at a friends place, but my favorite game in Monkey Ball was by far the frisbee golf. I love the way they integrated holding the A button as you flick your wrist and releasing it as you would a frisbee. Amazing!

I love the Monkey Space Wars, that's the Galaga-esque one. It's only one level which makes me hrrrmph... but it's still loads of fun. The sling shot one's pretty nifty too

No Pete, you really won't. You're just saying that. You said it yourself: the last console you owned was a TurboGrafix 16. You're a PC gamer. Stick with your own kind.

I can think of one, but we jews saw to his crucifixion.
Oh, speaking of games and crucifixion, but actually having nothing to do with crucifixion, gears of war might be the best first person shooter since ever.
