figured I'd start a new forum for sports rants. Thomas, First off, the Yanks pay their luxory tax. Blame the other teams for not investing wisely. In 3 years, the Marlins will win another series with their incredible farm system. The Mets (up until this year), have historically tried to rival the Yanks by picking up washed up all stars. Kudos to Omar for assembling a great team this year.
Secondly, the AL teams in contention for the wild card (sox, sox, twins, and angels) are dramatically better than the ensemble of reds, padres, d'backs and phillies. any of the AL wildcard teams are strong contenders in a world series. You've even acknowledged that the reds and dodgers are a stretch to be considered a "strong" team. Hell, I'd even take the blue jays over the dbacks and padres.
I'm just waiting for Billy Benitez or Armondo Wagner to serve up a nice longball to Miguel Cairo in game seven. See you then!

Mariano Rivera was picked up by the Yanks at age 20, and was in their farm system for 5 years before playing a game. In his first season, he made only $105,000. I think that counts as "from their own farm system", no?
I'm a Yankees fan but I wish the luxury tax were way higher. New York will simply always be a more lucrative market than Kansas City will be, and it seems it'd just be nice if they could play baseball on a somewhat more level playing field.

Give me time and I will address all of you American League retards individually.
Anthony: Typical Yankee fan. Up until last two weeks, the Yankees were still fighting for a playoff spot, and you sound like they are already in the World Series waiting for an NL team to show up. Hey, according to you, the AL is so much stronger, so you've got a long way to go. And until comparing stats (I did the first one for you, you do it one your own now), yes the AL playoff teams have better records, but compare all the teams stats (including payroll) before using words like "dramatically better."
And as far as "Billy Benitez or Armondo Wagner," um, he's blown two more saves than Mariano Rivera. Wagner's got 30 more K's in 7 innings less work. So don't start popping off that Wagner isn't what he is. Understaning that Mariano is a lifetime playoff demon, he is a little more hittable this year. As Wagner is as well.
Fuller. I expect better than you. I'll repeat myself, up until 3 years ago, the All Star Game was meaningless. Would we compare preseason records?
Bob. Well your not a retard. I am just not as up on the Yankees as you. You are right. Mariano is farm system. thanks for the heads up.
And the Mets signed Kelly Stinet today. lol.

oh Tommy, I love discussing baseball with you...it's like having an open session in chinese parliment. I keep expecting someone to attack me with a shoe! anyway, I found it interesting that when a Mets fan (re: "Ah it, too much talk. We'll just show you in October") talks about being in the series, it is not pompus, but when a Yankee fan does, it is. Double standard? And you know that Wagner has been the cardiac kid on more than sporadic occassions. He'll get the job done, but not without a scare. I'm not going to muckrack on statistics...fact is that I don't have the time and we can only hypothesize what would be of the reds/dodgers/etc if they were in the AL. And Tommy, if you keep this up, I won't have Sammy Jackson call and warn you anymore about SNAKES ON A PLANE!

The only reason I make the "October" comment is becasue of the ridiculous stranglehold the Mets have over the NL right now, and their records with all the other NL teams. It should be automatic. It's all in good spirited, Yankee hating fun.
BTW I got my letter from the Mets today regarding the Playoff ticket I am entitled to get from my season ticket package. Grizzly. I was all smiles opening the envelope, grinning ear to ear, laughing with my wife, almost like being told a hilarious joke in a room full of people. then imagine realizing all of those people were laughing at you. Your belly laugh would turn into a small chuckle, then to a dull frown, and your excitment and care-free nature fades into the red eared, sweaty neck sadness.
4 playoff tickets cost about the same as the Saturday package we have (13 games)

Had to get in on this one. Yes I'm a Yankee fan and I love the fact that the team I live and die with has the ability(shitload of cash!!!) to get whomever they please. It does show how our owner wants and expects the best from his team. Also I'm a lover of the tradition's of baseball, so the yankees offer that to the players who sign with them( as do the sox, sox, cubbs and cards.) its just not putting on another uniform. The fact that I'm a Yankee fan does not effect the fact that I;m a realist too. Major league basesball has made it possible for 4-5 teams to corner the market on talent you no which teams they are so it doesnt bear repeating. The top 8 players in the game play in NY and Boston so untill there is a salary cap or more luxary tax the playing field wont be level. However all the owners of mlb teams make a shitload of money, I don't care what they say, they own pro sport franchises with major merch deals so the fact that owners won't spend money on there teams is a rich person cop out. So just because the mets yanks and red sox invest back into there companys doesnt make them satan himself. Futhermore yes TOM Yankee fans are popus. Despite the late 60s through mid-70s and the 80s - early 90s, this team has kicked major more so than any other sports team in history, so we have gotten spoiled and until recently I belive there was a dynasty not to long ago? So all you met heads out there feel good that the nl mvp will come from your team and that the mets are kickin and takin names and have a viable chance at the series this year and quite mpossibly the next few. Hope that pitching holds up guys. See I don't hate the mets, they have nothing to do with my team, and I hope there is a subway series every year. I kinow thats bad for baseball but the rest of the country its good for new york. I only hate one team The Faggot RED SAWX!!! I don't hate the players(except Schilling and Nixon) I just hate the team and town. Nah not the city of Boston Just the sawx fans.

one more interesting tidbit...
Its funny that I like and I mean really like players on other teams but I just cant wear there jerseys. Like Ortiz, Wright, Pujols etc.. I just couldnt bring myself to wear another teams gear.
However I'm a die hard JETS fan but I will have a Reggie Bush jersey!!! Just funny how the sports are different, because I know other people are like that too.

Sam, you're brilliant. Well said. But do you really think that the Royals could spend what the Yankees do? Thinking from a ticket sales purchase alone, I am sure the Yankees and the Mets, per seat price is higher than in Kansas City. I know for a fact (Fuller will testify) Red Sox tickets are the highest price in the league. Also, explain what you mean by saying that Yankee fans are popups. I didn't get that.
Side note: Do you really think that the Mets will have the NL MVP? There has been a lot of talk about Beltran winning it, and believe it or not, Reyes name has started peeking up (not that I think he's MVP). And I know that Beltran's stats are great, but is Pujols a lock for MVP? I understand that Beltran is on fire (God, I pray he stays that way) but if you remove Pujols from the line up, you are left with Scott Rolen and....well...Scott Rolen. Jim Edmonds and David Eckstein are both out, so isn't Pujols "more valuable" to his team? Just playing devil's advocate. You know, the Mets have never had a League MVP before.
Speaking of MVP awards, I am sure most people know that Barry Bonds has won the League MVP award 7 times. Sit quietly for a minute and say that again in your head. Even with steriods, that is a fucking sick stat.

I meant pompus!!! If the royals actually spent the same amount of money the richer teams did and put a decent product on the field there ticket sales and such would triple giving them more revenue. Like I said before, if you put your money into your buisness..... And I think the braves have the highest ticket prices, but I could be wrong. Boston seems like a high price cause their stadium hold about 35,000 people so it makes sense. I personally think all sporting events cost way to much money a hotdog is like 6-8$ in most parks, I mean c'mon we all work for a living!! But the price of seeing ur favorite team costs money I guess. I think Jose Reyes is one of the most exciting players I have ever seen. He's a bolt of lightning!! Reyes helps his team every night, and I think the mets would be a different team without him. He is more valuble than pujols cause he is a 5 tool player, and does all of them well, even his power is starting to come around. I seriously think the mets should redo his deal cause he's gonna be worth a shitload more and you dont want him on the yankees or red sawx!!! Oh yeah and FULLER... From what pete and everybody else tells me your a great guy, but enough with the new england bullshit. boston is new yorks in every sport except basketball. The pats were never good until you took the giants coach, the bruins were good a couple of times but they have sucked more times than not, and what could we say about the SAUX!!!! Dude 80 years man!! And you had to get lucky to win 2 years ago. Baseball was ruled by the sox in the beginning and than you traded the most prolific player in baseballs history to the yank's. Don't blame ny for you lackluster team for all those years and even now. Dig up Yawkey and complain to him about it. Unlike sawx fans I don't cry when my team always losses(I'm a jet fan for christs sake) nor do I start a sox suck chant at every event. Dude let it go the red sox will always be a second tier team compared to the yanks. And dont feel bad the world loves mediocrity !!!!!

Hold on a second there, Sherlock. If Kansas City pumped tons of money into their team, all the poor people around them would rise up and buy tickets (and merchandise & merit expensive TV commercial time, which is where most of the money comes from)? They're frickin dirt farmers.

There should really be some steadfast rule about contracting teams. Dirt farmers or not, the Royals are not run properly. I mean, who wants to dish out money to see the awesome 20+ home run power of Mike Sweeney or the hard-to-spell Mark Gruzelanik? They have no plans for advancement. I mean, can you really list their last big star (was there even anyone past George Brett). At least the Expos had some exciting players to go see! The twins spent only about 15mill more than the Royals, and look where they are. I say jettison Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and the Devil Rays. the less teams the better! BTW, if you were to add a team, what would you think would be the best city? I'm interested to hear opinions on that one.
