Jackson Martin Rall update:
It is unfortunate and unhappy to announce lil Jackson is dealing with some issues: He has been diagnosed with two issues concerning his heart. The first is pulmonary stenosis (which basically means one of his heart valves is tight) the second is a ventricular septal defect (a hole in his heart). He is in no pain and is continuing to thrive though at a slower rate than the average newborn because his heart has to work a little extra to pump blood taking up the calories that would be used for growth. The prognosis is wait and see. It is possible that both defects will resolve themselves as the heart continues to grow and his heart wall will fuse together. However, it seems more likely due to the size of the hole that surgery perhaps will be necessary sometime in the future when he is bigger and stronger. Kim and myself will be taking him for a second opinion to make sure all this information is accurate so if anyone knows a top notch pediatric cardiologist feel free to pass their name along; we have a name or too of doctors in the city and will more than likely have him check out there. Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop. I had told some people and I didn't want anyone to feel left out or to receive miss information. Once again he is in no immediate danger and looks as healthy as any newborn it is just a situation that we will have to monitor.
Hopefully that answers your question Tom.

Did what I always do immediately after I hear anything medical: called my mom. She'll make some calls and get you some good names. I remember first hearing about these two issues; I am still surprised as to how somewhat common it is. Vito's nephew had it repaired years ago ago, and Jill's friend's daughter just had the surgery to repair it. Mom said exactly what you said. The two conditions are related to each other, that growth could be temporarily a little slower (only until the issue is solved, Vito's nephew only grew to > 6ft) and that they do not all require surgery. I'll pass those names asap.

Time and time again it's been proven that Ralls are the toughest people on earth. I have infinite faith that things will turn out all right. In the mean time, if there's anything that can be done, you know who to call.

Hang in there Jack! Pete's cousin Colleen is a nurse practitioner specializing in cardiology... she might be able to steer you toward good people for a second opinion. Jack M. Rall, Sounds like a reclusive but influential Novelist. I can see that name on a book jacket underneath "N.Y. Times best selling author".

Update: After consulting several sources and getting a second opinion my lovely wife and I have decided to be pro active and address Jackson's heart issue sooner than later. His heart is under distress on a daily basis and although he is doing an excellent job compensating it is possibly causing other issues and we are delaying the inevitable . Therefore, we have decided he will undergo surgery on the 15th in NYC. Thanks to everyone who provided us with the invaluable resources to help us make our decision, and thanks in advance for the well wishes. I will keep you updated.
