So if you haven't heard already, Kim and I are expecting our first child. The Chickpea will arrive sometime late September early October. What I need are the experienced uncles and fathers to let me know what I need to effectively survive a child. I have started the process of reading everything I can get my hands on as far as gear and techniques etc. but if there are any suggestions or thoughts please feel free to pass em along and help a new father out. As a side note , there will more than likely be a nice size baby pool (probably similar to a Superbowl box pool) but there will be more details later about that.

Congrats again!
First item you need is a baby swing. Register for one that has a battery and a plug (so you can go outside with it or so you don't need 100 million batteries. If the kid likes it, it is a nice way to put him/her down and take a break.
Don't buy a basinette. They don't stay in them long. Get a pack and play. They are easier, more versitile, and can be used if you go away on vacation as a bed. Tommy slept in his last week when Jill to him to see his great-grandparents.
Sign up for similac and enfamil coupons now. this way when the kid comes, you'll have coupons to save some bucks. Sign up even if Kim is breast feeding. The coupons are good to sell and trade for other coupons. (there is a whole underworld of new parent coupon traders. it's sick.)
IMO diaper genies, wipey warmers are all wastes of time and money.
Register for everything. everything. if you don't like something after trying it, most big chain baby stores have tremendously kind return policies.
more to come.

Congrats... I know nothing about kids, so I have no advice to offer.
Call me in 5 years or so if you need a magic show for a birthday party or something : )

It would be highly improbable, but funny if Marty and Kim delivered on Oct 3rd. Marty and Tommy share the same birthday (July 13th...start buying presents now...for the both of them)

We (Kim) have decided not to find out the sex of the baby; however, we have been contemplating all sorts of names: Lets see what the nethyr world can come up with....
my two favorite girl names at present:
Wanda Tootsie Rall (want a tootsie roll) & Ivanna Roxanne Rall ( I wanna rock n roll)

good call on not finding out the gender. i was against it when we had our son, but jill, bring the patient, had the final say. not to often you get a good surprise when you go in to a hospital, and I look back on it and am glad i didn't know.
plus, from a COMPLETELY cheapskate point of view, then people get you clothes and shower stuff that is gender neutral, and you can reuse it over and over for all yr kids.

my son is getting fresh. in the last week, he has taken to slapping people in the face. his parents are uncertian how to handle the situation. do we slap his little hand and say no? do we ignore it and hope in goes away (like phase)? do we positivly reward when he does appropriate things instead? also, now that he can stand up, when he wakes up, he pulls himself up and screams until someone comes to get him. look at all you have to look forward to, marty.

Having a baby sounds like the 10th circle of hell. What the hell is wrong with you people?
