We had a long discussion at work about what people will be doing with their economic stimulus checks (if you are one of the fortunate ones to get it). With rising gas prices some people said they would be using it to pay theor gas for the (hope hope) rest of the year. Some said they were using it to pay credit card bills, and some said they were going to save it.
I think the "purpose" of the checks were for people to go out and spend it in some retail type fashion in order to "boost" the economy.
Are you getting a check, and if so what are you doing with it?

Be careful, I heard the Wii version is a largely crippled version ported from the PS2 and lacking player creation, clothing / instrument rewards as well as lots of downloadable content. Also no online play and incompatible with Wii GH3 controllers. Feel free to hop on the Rock Band thread in "games" to dive into it.

Many thanks for the warning...I'll wait until I play it in a store first to see if it is worthwhile.

From what Ive read everything pete said is true. For whatever reason, teh devs decided to use a gimpy version for the wii instead of actually making a version thats as good as the others. Dont buy Rock Band for the Wii.

I think the purpose was to boost the president's poll ratings so people focus less on his colossal mistakes as an election nears. Like most people, I'll have already spent more than that this year paying extra for gasoline. Grrr.

I'm getting $1200 worth of pudding.
even though $100 would have been....a LOT of pudding.
Or, I'll spend it in Ireland over the next 2 weeks on Guinness.

I will post what I have.
I didn't take as many pictures as I have in the past, as I've been there 2x already. Plus, I was there for school, so it wasn't all pints and Pogues.
some brief observations:
-it's f**king expensive in Ireland, hence, me spending my entire stimulus check in the motherland.
Pint of Guinness, 5.50euro (about $8.50 usd) Nintendo Wii: 320euro (about $500usd). houses going for like 600,000 euros, not even that nice.
-Watching people make chips at Intel is AWESOME. they may as well have been on the moon with their suits and air filters and no bathroom breaks.
-Guinness is piloting a "Guinness Medium Strength", which is like 2.3% alcohol. To that I say, BOLLOCKS.
-Guinness is better there. BECAUSE THEY MAKE IT RIGHT THERE. ;-)
-If you go, make sure to get to Galway. More fun than Dublin, cheaper, younger. Cork is fun too.
-Funny story: some guy was giving me a VERY hard time about being an American, so I replied by saying "yeah, well, it took us 100 years to get our independence from England, not 1000 like you guys. and we got the whole country"
he thought it was funny, which is nice for me, considering I was expecting to get stomped.
-Pubs, would it KILL YOU to give me some damn ice? you get like 3 ice cubes with a drink.
-Despite the dollar being weak, at least it's in PAPER form! dealing with 1 and 2 euro coins is miserable.
USA! USA! USA!

Ireland is just on the start of the backslide from the Celtic Tiger. The economic boom that stepped it up just about an entire "#-world country" status. Most of the people there had more money than they knew what to do with for quite a while. Relatively massive amounts of immigrants poured in, lots of homes were built, lots of second / third / etc homes were bought and mortgages taken out. It's now at the point where it's starting to deflate and find a point to level out at. The prices there won't stay ridiculous for long.

this is true, Pete. They caught up, but in a very short period of time. Things will correct themselves, but it will suck for a while.
