So I thought this question was pretty ridiculous, and apparently so did a bunch of other people. Feel free to share your own thoughts! (PS: The battle environment is unknown. Suck it up.) www.ugo.com/movies/minotaur-vs-centaur/Click through the celebrity names on the left for a peek at their feelings on this vital issue.

i would have to think the centaur would win overall. based on the thought of how generally cavalry would win over foot soldiers, i would think a centaur would run over a minotaur, and win that way.
but in a street fight, because the minotaur has an aggressive animal brain compared to the centaur's logical human brain, i think the minotaur's instincts would kick into over drive and end it for the centaur.
did you add into the weapons effect? i think with an effective crossbow, and his ability to stampede, you have to give it to the centaur.

i think most people pick the centaur because it is an unfair fight. drop the weapons and see what happens.

Eh, a lot of things could play into it. The starting position, the environment, etc. We can take it as a given though that if the minotaur closes the range on the centaur without taking a crossbow in the [insert vital body part here], he's going to gore the crap out of him.

Im going with the Minotaur. Basically, as far as I can tell the Centaur only has 2 semi-advantages, speed and a ranged weapon. These are definetely things that could push the fight into the Centaurs favor, but I dont think they will be enough.
First off, we have no idea under what conditions the fight will take place. On an open field with no obstacles the advantage obviously goes to the centaur, but when you think about it, most 1 vs 1 encounters take place in a confined space of some kind. An arena if you will. I think given a degree of cover and a field that is not completely open, the advantage goes to the Minotaur.
Second, Minotaurs are no slouches in the speed department as they are half bull, and bulls can charge with extraordinary quickness. That being said, speed is not their only extraordinary quality either. Minotaurs are superhumanly powerful and have no fear in combat. Also, to dispute a previous statement, they are not driven by instinct, but rather by at least some human intelligence. This is proven in the Minotaurs ability to utilize weaponry such as a Trident. So Centaurs come to the fight with speed, and weapon superiority. Minotaurs come with speed, strength, and no fear in combat. Advantage Minotaur.
In the end, I think it would come down to whether of not the Centaur can actually shoot the Minotaur with a mortal wound using the first bolt. Frankly, a missed shot or a shot to a non-fatal location such as a shoulder wound will not only enrage the Minotaur but give him ample opportunity to close the distance before the Centaur can possibly reload his weapon (assuming the centaur was given extra rounds to begin with!)
I don't think the Centaur can do it. He's half horse and horses startle easily. I think the pressure of needing to make a perfect first shot while a crazed half man-half bull is charging with a large three pronged spear will cause his aim to be off and the Minotaur will be able to get in close and use his trident and natural weapons to drop his enemy.

the D&D guy seems to think this is a no-brainer in favor of the Minotaur, and I'll have to go with them because they are the experts on SILLY CRAP THAT NEVER HAPPENS YET IS FUN TO TALK ABOUT.
Also, I have to ask, is this in the Matrix? ;-)

Now that Ive actually watched some of those videos, I gotta say that people seem to put way more stock into crossbows then they should. Crossbows are just not that cool.
Also, I lol'd at the Neil Patrick Harris video where the guy that plays Kumar doesnt know what a trident is, but he name drops Gnomeregan in the last few seconds. World of Warcraft ftw.

I voted Minotaur, but it's really a very difficult call, because two out of three it goes to the minotaur. Mythologically speaking, centaurs are undefeated, whereas the minotaur had his killing spree ended by a boy-loving athenian, however I feel that nearing the time of his loss the minotaur was kind of like Crocop once he left pride and joined the UFC, he'd been fighting savage and vicious brawlers for his entire life, and defeated all of them, became filled with hubris, stopped training as hard, and got surprised by a plucky grappler. Home court advantage Minotaur, Minotaur wins- Throw a centaur in a labyrinth and you negate both the speed and the range advantage, leaving the minotaur to massacre the centaur. Home court advantage Centaur - Centaur wins; Remember, it was a dirty centaur that killed hercules. Centaurs are assholes that used trickery and poison to bring down superior opponents, in the forests of Thebes, the minotaur would be turned into a pincushion, as the hit and run tactics of the centaur would keep the minotaur off guard, while the centaur tirelessly darted around trees and leapt over streams (as they're so often depicted doing), until finally scoring a headshot. Neutral Arena, Minotaur wins - The minotaur is apparently armed with an anti-cavalry weapon that worst case scenario can be thrown at a retreating opponent, I feel that a single wound from a crossbow wouldn't be enough to bring down the minotaur, and the minotaur would be able to close the distance while the centaur reloads, and would naturally dominate in hand to hand combat. Mythologically, the minotaur is a killing machine, whereas centaurs are dirty scumbag tricksters. When it comes to centaurs, I agree with christopher walken, em.

Despite my physical love for centaurs, I am in absolute agreement with Josh and Jim.
