Since discussion of the Wii has permeated every area of the forums and keeps popping up in random threads, here's it's own thread. Talk about it here.

This thread is destined for failure.

it might have a better chance if it were on the "sez board", rather than in "games"...kinda like the upcoming festivities thread.

Re-Rail! I have in my grubby little paws, Wii Play. It's a very cute mini-game selection that pretty much walks you through the functionality of the Wiimote. IGN has a well-written review on it: wii.ign.com/articles/748/748607p1.html and says what I want to say far better. Personal addendum: It's fun, short-lived entertainment and I'm going to guess part of the popularity of the game is it's inclusion of a wii-mote in the package. It does make me crave more full versions of several of the mini-games, namely the Billiards game and the cow-racing one. As is though, put this on a rental list instead of a purchase one.

More with the Wii games; Cooking Mama: Cook Off: I have the DS version as well and I have to be honest that I'm a little biased towards this. It's very much a fun game. For those of you who know nothing about it, it's a cooking game where you are given recipes that consist of completing a set of mini-game tasks. Each task is scored and the ending score is how well you've accomplished the recipe (bronze, silver, gold medals). [ Screenshots!] The game is, admittedly, a bit frustrating at times. There are some tasks you can swear up, down and sideways that you've done properly and it just doesn't register with the WiiMote. They've also included a "competition" section where you can challenge the AI or your friends to a cook-off. The AI is a decent competitor, but if you're any good at the task, it isn't going to be too much of a challenge for you. Though I've used the AI to figure out what some of the tasks wanted me to do. Overall, the game *is* fun, and if you liked it on the DS, you'll probably enjoy it on the Wii. As for it's lasting game play worthiness, it definitely goes beyond WiiPlay, but not as far as WarioWare (Which I'll get to in a minute). It's at least worth a rental, in my book. WarioWare: Smooth Moves: If you've played any of the WarioWare games before, the sheer bizarre of some of these minigames will not surprise you. And it should come as no surprise that, like the DS Wario, the Wii Wario takes full advantage of the platform. Each minigames is categorized into different "poses/methods" that describes how you should hold the WiiMote to complete your task; like the "mohawk" where you hold the WiiMote on your head as though it were a mohawk. This game is bright, fast paced and exceedingly amusing. The cut scenes are hilarious (disco-cats!) and varied and in an entire 2-hours worth of playing, I was still seeing mini-games I hadn't seen before. [Screenshots!] My only real criticisms of the game, is that there really isn't a multipayer mode. You can pass of the WiiMote, which works out well as each mini-game takes somewhere between 15-30seconds to complete. Which brings me to my next criticism that some of the games aren't very clear what task you're trying to do. Though after an initial pass it becomes clear when the task shows up later. I highly recommend this game for purchase if you're into strange, colourful and fast paced gameplay. And, if you don't mind leaving your dignity at the door. And finally... The Godfather: Blackhand Edition: Umm... yes! For those of you looking to get away from the mini-game style games that seem to be flooding the Wii market and are looking for something more than a port with a few motion control additions, this is the game for you. I've only just started this game recently, and what I've seen so far is very nice. The load times are minimal and the cut-scenes are actually engaging. For a Wii game (yes I know the graphics obsessed harp on this aspect), it's very pretty. The camera angles are player friendly and hoo-boy! FUN! There is nothing quite as satisfying as shaking a frat-boy and smacking his head into a wall (By actually grabbinghim by the lapels and shaking the WiiMote in a pantomimed gesture of what you're doing on screen). The driving around and stealing cars has a very GTA feel to it and everything is fairly intuitive. For the actions that aren't, the integrated tutorials are well done and actually help move the story along! (Yeah for useful!)[ Screenshots!] As I said, I haven't played very far into the game, but I would still recommend this as my first few hours have been highly satisfying! Hmmm... I think that's it for Wii games for now. There was a 360 purchase in there somewhere, but that's for an entirely different thread/post.

so I finally got the Wii, despite Helen's looks of disapproval. ;-)
so, in the last few months, any other cool games to recommend? I've been into Res Evil 4 a lot, and Elebits. Anyone else have anything to pick? stay away from?
word on the street is that the Metroid game coming out tomorrow is the best game for any Nintendo system, EVER.
and by word on the street, I mean my Dad.

To be honest with you, I have only two games for Wii. Obviously WiiSports, and Smooth Moves. I rented Tony Hawk Downhill Jam. I thought it was fun, and well worth it, but definitly NOT worth owning. If you look on BestBuy's website, they have links to the different Wii games and the ratings from the two sites seem to be pretty on par with my thoughts. I am looking to get a new game myself, so let me know what you think. Oh and I played Call of Duty. Terrible. Way to difficult to shoot and move.
